2021 ~poetry and rant

~2020  ~A poem

"Joyous and cheerful,
They gracefully passed through the golden gate,
Who would've taught them,
What would've happened,
Not one would know their fate.
The glittering castle, the golden pillars,
All seemed familiar.
They'd been here before but,
Something was surely peculiar.
Waited 60 days to see what it was about,
Then one night, one of them sneaked away,
He began to scream and shout,
For all of them to come out.
They stared at the castle,
With their stunned eyes and hanging mouths.
The castle was dripping mud and dreary
It was icy cold,
Alas! Nobody had warned them,
All that glittered was not gold."

~2021~
It's time for a new year, yet again.
It's a neverending pattern. A period of 365 days ends and a new one starts.
Seems boring and not worth celebrating if it's phrased that way, but the "new year" is actually one of the most celebrated festivals worldwide. It is a festival that is not seperated by cultures or boundaries, literally everyone celebrates it.

However, 2020 was a very different year and everyone around the globe agrees with that statement. Something which has never happened before, uniform agreement, has occured while we struggled through a year of social and physical boundaries. For centuries, people have fought.

WARS- Wars of succession, Civil wars, Wars of Independence, Revolts have prevailed ever since humanity arose but even when such fights continued, during 2020 the world came closer (only metaphorically, not physically!) with the idea that things have to get better!

A prediction by major Indian astrologers for 2021 has been that the world or the authoritarians of the majority of the world will unite to devise a better political and administrative system for the coming generations. Reason being, 2020 has succeeded in helping us understand what we need to be prepared for the shock, and has also shown us how wrong we can be! It is true that we will be well equipped for any crisis in the future simply because we went through this one.

Here's to hoping that we can learn from our mistakes and collectively figure ourselves out as individuals as well as a community.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year,
Riya.
